Late night grocery shopping.

It’s great living in West LA. There are several major groceryes within 2 miles of my place.
Albertsons and Trader Joes within walking distance. Ralphs, Vons and Whole Food within a 5 min drive.

Albertsons and Vons close at midnight and Ralphs close at 2 am. With two small kids at home, sometimes I find it more convenient to go grocery shopping late at night.

For the most part it’s great. The isles are empty. No kids running around (including mine). Generally there are no lines to check out.

The only problem is that, it looks like most of the creeps and weirdos seem to agree with me. They all seem to like buying their booze, chips and ice cream late at night.

Facebook sucks

Facebook sucks! There! I said it.

They have an open API where developers can create their own plug ins. Sounds cool. Sounds promising.
But in reality, we ended up with a shit load with fucking stupid plugins that have no real usage. Who the fuck care if I’m a vampire or a werewolf.
My friends now keep throwing shit at me. The other day, I got a fucking sheep thrown at me.

There’s just so much useless shit in there, that I can’t stand facebook anymore.

But the main facebook killer point for me is Privacy. Not my privacy, since I don’t have anything mine in there. I’m not dumb enough to put it in my facebook profile shit that I don’t anyone to know about me. Specially possible employers.

However, there’s also shit that I don’t want to know about some people.

This week I saw for the first time some pics of my little sister and her boyfriend. That made me sick. Our age difference is quite big (13 years apart), so I’ll always see her as my little sister.

The fact that she’s making out with some douche bag with pointy hair just makes me sick. Hope she never brings the dbag to our thanksgiving dinner.

Fuck Facebook for breaking my heart.

Obama’s Addresses Religion and Politics

This is the first time I’ve heard Obama address Religion and Politics. So this wasn’t a factor when I picked him.

While I might not agree with his opinions, his opinions are way far better than Mike Wackabee. Obama respects secularism and thinks it’s important in America.

But the major issue was that he had the balls to address the issue while most politicians simply avoid this issue.

While I’m not hopeful of seeing a pastafarian or atheist running for president anytime soon, at least Obama is a candidate that sees the danger of a religious nation. He even makes fun of Leviticus, which is an easy target.

“For one, they need to understand the critical role that the separation of church and state has played in preserving not only our democracy, but the robustness of our religious practice. Folks tend to forget that during our founding, it wasn’t the atheists or the civil libertarians who were the most effective champions of the First Amendment. It was the persecuted minorities, it was Baptists like John Leland who didn’t want the established churches to impose their views on folks who were getting happy out in the fields and teaching the scripture to slaves. It was the forbearers of the evangelicals who were the most adamant about not mingling government with religious, because they did not want state-sponsored religion hindering their ability to practice their faith as they understood it.

Moreover, given the increasing diversity of America’s population, the dangers of sectarianism have never been greater. Whatever we once were, we are no longer just a Christian nation; we are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers.

And even if we did have only Christians in our midst, if we expelled every non-Christian from the United States of America, whose Christianity would we teach in the schools? Would we go with James Dobson’s, or Al Sharpton’s? Which passages of Scripture should guide our public policy? Should we go with Leviticus, which suggests slavery is ok and that eating shellfish is abomination? How about Deuteronomy, which suggests stoning your child if he strays from the faith? Or should we just stick to the Sermon on the Mount - a passage that is so radical that it’s doubtful that our own Defense Department would survive its application? So before we get carried away, let’s read our bibles. Folks haven’t been reading their bibles.

This brings me to my second point. Democracy demands that the religiously motivated translate their concerns into universal, rather than religion-specific, values. It requires that their proposals be subject to argument, and amenable to reason. I may be opposed to abortion for religious reasons, but if I seek to pass a law banning the practice, I cannot simply point to the teachings of my church or evoke God’s will. I have to explain why abortion violates some principle that is accessible to people of all faiths, including those with no faith at all.”

American woman is jailed in Saudi Arabia for going to Starbucks with a male co-worker

C’mon people!

What the fuck are these people thinking? She was having coffee at Starbucks with a colleague.
I do agree that women aren’t as smart as men, but we don’t have to arrest them for the stupidest thing.

Maybe if they were ugly I would agree with that, but she had her head covered, so why arrest her at all? We couldn’t even tell whether she’s ugly or not with her face all covered.

Now, I know what you people are gonna say. “The muslims are too radical… Christians are not like that.”

Bullshit.

Just look at my favorite Christian: Pastor Phelps, the owner of godhatesfags.com. He’s as fucking nuts as any radical muslim. Plus, NOT ALL muslims are radicals. I’ve met some muslims and they were educated and polite. Crazy fucks for believing in their magic books and flying dudes, but they weren’t radical or fanatics (at least from what I could tell).

Religion is dangerous. Yes, it does bring some joy and meaning to some, but religion tends to brainwash people. And people (in general) are dumb fucks. I’d say less than 1% of the world population has a fucking brain. The rest are just empty vessels waiting to be filled by any supersticious crap they are fed.

Help understanding Leviticus

Someone emailed me this.

Dear President Bush,

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God’s Law. I have learned a great deal from you and understand why you would propose and support a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage. As you said “in the eyes of God marriage is based between a man a woman.” I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God’s Laws and how to follow them.

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? (I’m pretty sure she’s a virgin).

3. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

4. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

5. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this? Aren’t there ‘degrees’ of abomination?

6. Lev.21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?

7. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

8. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

9. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God’s word is eternal and unchanging. It must be really great to be on such close terms with God and his son, … even better than you and your own Dad, eh?

J. Kent Ashcroft (and others).

Science: Evolution and Creationism

Please, help spread this book.
It’s important that our kids learn that Evolution is REAL and based on Science.

Creationism/Intelligent Design is NOT an alternative to it.

Where the candidates stand on Evolution.

Brilliant post on where the candidates stand on Evolution and why it’s so fucking important.

It’s imperative that the man that leads this country relies on facts and reason rather than what he’s been taught since his childhood.

Surprisingly (????), most Republicans are knuckleheads and don’t believe in Evolution, while most Dems do.

My favorite candidate, Mike Gravel also has my favorite quote (while not completely accurate):

My God, evolution is a fact, and if these people are disturbed by being the descendants of monkeys and fishes, they’ve got a mental problem. We can’t afford the psychiatric bill for them. That ends the story as far as I’m concerned.

Evolution doesn’t state that we came from monkeys or fishes. It states that we might have an ancestor in common with them.

Pastafarians win again!

Another victory for the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Members of the Polk County School Board recently tried to introduce Intelligent Design as part of the curriculum. Members of the board opposed evolution as part of the new standards that are being adopted in Florida. They argued that if Evolution were to be taught as a standard, so should Intelligent Design.

Victory aside, how fucked up is that more than 50% of that School Board opposed Evolution as part of the program? This why the education system here is so poor. It’s because we put those fuck heads in charge of our schools.

Social Awareness

Americans live in a bubble.

Like every one else in this world, they have their worries.

They worry about how are they going to afford a 850k house or how are they going to afford sending their kids to a private university.

They worry about how to make sure their portfolio doesn’t go down the drain in a possible recession.

They worry about stupid neighbors dinging their new car’s doors.

And that’s true, because those are some of my worries.

We need to start putting things in perspective.

If you need a jump start, why don’t you take a look at these UNICEF pictures.

I don’t do much to help society. But at least, I try to do something.

I sponsor a poor kid in a Third World Country (Brazil), but that’s clearly not enough.
I also rant about religion a lot. I have hope that some day, people will start following reason and not their silly faiths.
